At Serap Seker Photography, newborn safety has always been our highest priority. Over the past 13 years, we have had the privilege of photographing more than 2,000 babies in our Guelph photography studio, welcoming families from across Ontario and more than 90 countries around the world.

Why Newborn Safety Matters

Newborn photography captures a once-in-a-lifetime stage. Tiny fingers, delicate features, sleepy smiles, and the incredible bond between parents and their baby.

But newborns are also incredibly delicate.

Their muscles are still developing. They cannot support their own heads. They are adjusting to life outside the womb and rely entirely on adults to keep them safe and comfortable.

That is why professional newborn photography should never prioritize a photograph over a baby’s well-being.

A safe newborn photographer understands how to adapt the session to the baby rather than expecting the baby to adapt to the session.

This experience allows us to recognize when a baby is comfortable, when they need a break, and when a pose should be adjusted or skipped entirely.

We Photograph Only One Newborn Per Day

One of the most important decisions we have made is limiting our studio to one newborn session per day.

Why?

Because babies don’t follow schedules.

Some newborns settle quickly, while others need extra time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, or cuddles.

By dedicating an entire day to one family, we never need to rush.

Parents can relax.

Babies can settle naturally.

The entire experience remains calm and stress-free.

Following the Baby’s Lead

One of the core principles of newborn photography safety is learning to follow the baby’s cues.

Throughout every newborn photography session, we carefully monitor:

• Body position
• Skin colour
• Breathing
• Comfort level
• Temperature
• Startle reflexes
• Natural flexibility

If a baby is uncomfortable, we stop.

If a baby needs to feed, we pause.

If a pose doesn’t feel right for that particular baby, we simply move on.

The baby always leads the session.

Safe Posing Comes First

Many of the images parents see online involve poses that require careful support, proper positioning, or even composite editing techniques.

What many parents don’t realize is that some newborn photographs are actually created from multiple images combined together in post-production to ensure the baby’s safety at all times.

Whenever additional support is needed, safety comes first.

No photograph is worth risking a baby’s comfort or wellbeing.

Creating a Comfortable Studio Environment

A calm baby begins with a comfortable environment.

Our Guelph newborn photography studio is designed specifically with newborns in mind.

We maintain a warm temperature to help babies remain comfortable while posing.

We allow plenty of time for feeding and soothing.

We keep noise levels calm and gentle.
